Just as you can edit individual pixels with the Pencil and Brush tools, you can also paint bitmap lines and brush strokes with these tools. However, drawing in image edit mode is different from drawing in object mode.
In object mode, the drawing tools create an editable path object that contains paths and points. When you edit the object, bitmap strokes, fills, and effects redraw automatically. You can also change strokes and fills.
In image edit mode, the drawing tools change pixels. You cannot edit your work as if working with path objects. For more information on editing path objects with paths, see Editing strokes and Changing stroke and fill colors.

Note: If you paint lines and strokes that enlarge a bitmap image, its size is automatically trimmed after leaving image edit mode. It is trimmed to a rectangular shape in the size of the used pixels, removing transparent space around the image.
